Apulia, 4th century BCE. A beautifully decorated dish with a two handled lid showing the waval design typical of the Apulian colony. The lid portrays a beautiful brown, black and cream paint which has been decorated to a lined theme. A lekanis was widely believed to be used as a cosmetic container or as a gift for brides, given by their fathers on their wedding day and filled with trinkets.
